Finding the Right Shows

Show selection is probably the most important part of trade show marketing—and it is the part most teams skip. They go back to the same old shows because the booth already fits the crate, the dates are on the calendar, and nobody wants to defend a new line item. That habit is expensive.

A stunning exhibit in the wrong hall is furniture. Freight, drayage, labor, and electrical do not care that the buyers you needed were across town at a smaller event.

Vertical vs. horizontal shows

Vertical shows gather one industry or specialty. Pros: denser buyer intent, easier messaging, often better conversations per badge. Cons: smaller absolute attendance, sometimes political floor politics, and a calendar that can feel like the same faces every year.

Horizontal shows cut across industries—big tech, general manufacturing, sprawling “innovation” events. Pros: reach and brand presence, press, partner visibility. Cons: diluted intent, harder to win the aisle, and vanity attendance that looks great in a recap deck while the CRM stays quiet.

Neither is morally better. Fit is better. If your product solves a narrow operational pain, a focused vertical often beats a horizontal spectacle. If you need ecosystem presence, horizontal can earn its keep—provided you measure meetings, not foot traffic.

Find the niche shows everyone else ignores

Niche events hide in association calendars, regional programs, and specialty conferences that never make the national “must exhibit” list. They can be gold: fewer competitors, serious attendees, and a booth investment that is sized to real conversations. The work is discovery—and honesty about whether your team will actually follow up.

Stop guessing. Score the show before you book space.

We built ShowMatchAI for exactly this problem. It uses predictive analytics and industry intent data to match your buyer personas to upcoming events and score the probability of qualified conversations—not just headcount. Start here: https://www.integratedexhibits.com/showmatchai/.

Prefer a worksheet approach while you compare options side by side? Use our Trade Show Selection Tool to model attendance, show type, and cost per impression before you sign a space contract.

Pick the room first. Then we will build the booth that deserves to be in it.
